Port ISR Update

We’re pleased to share a significant victory from Friday’s South Coast AQMD Governing Board meeting. In a 7–5 vote, the Board directed staff to pause rulemaking and pursue a cooperative agreement with the Cities and Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.  The Cities/Ports and AQMD have 45 days to negotiate this proposal and bring it back to the Mobile Source Committee on September 19th.

Thank you to all 50 business and labor leaders who turned out and spoke up. The unified support from business and labor made a powerful impact.

This marks a major step in ensuring the future of the nation’s largest port complex is shaped through collaboration — not speculation. The Ports’ offer, backed by both labor and industry, presents a credible, serious alternative to the proposed Indirect Source Rule (ISR) and now has a real opportunity to be fully explored. For more information on the Ports' alternative proposal see this recent Op-ed by Port Directors Seroka and Cordero.

We’ll continue to keep you informed as talks progress toward the September deadline.
