Stop the SCAQMD Ports Rule
Protect Local Jobs. Defend Our Port. Keep Control in Our Community.
Why We’re Speaking Out
The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is pushing a costly new “Infrastructure Rule” that threatens to take control of our local ports—America’s busiest gateways for goods—away from elected leaders and put it in the hands of an unelected board 50 miles away.
This is not a step toward cleaner air. It’s a repeat of the failed Indirect Source Rule, repackaged under a misleading name. And it could have devastating consequences:
Jobs on the Line: Thousands of good-paying, union-supported port jobs are at risk.
Higher Living Costs: Restrictions on port operations could drive up prices for everyday goods.
Loss of Local Control: Decisions about our ports’ future should be made by the leaders we elect—not bureaucrats in distant offices.
A Better Path Forward
We all want cleaner air. But there’s a better way to get there: collaboration between our ports and the SCAQMD. We need a balanced approach that protects public health and the livelihoods of working families across Southern California.
As mayors [Bass/Richardson] have already stated, cooperation—not conflict—is the way forward.
